Client
A significant construction company bidding for a major road building project in W.A.
What we were engaged to achieve
To develop the client’s management team for the selection workshop so that:
-
the management team own the proposal and proposed approaches, particularly those that impact their area of accountability;
-
they are an aligned and integrated group;
-
they are set up to listen well;
-
they answer the actual questions from the client and the issues / concerns behind the questions (speaking into the client’s worldview);
-
they speak succinctly and powerfully about their area of accountability and personal commitment to the project;
-
they generate two way conversations rather than purely question and answers;
-
their “energy” and “spirit” makes a positive impact and is not left to chance / mood of the client;
-
the Project Manager leaves an impression of being the actual leader;
-
the Leadership Team members reflect visible leadership, commitment and enthusiasm but do not dominate;
What we did
We facilitated a process that included some workshops. During these we engaged in a variety of activities designed to build the team members capability to demonstrate their competence, experience and track record in a way that had their client experience confidence and belief that they have the capability to deliver their project; that the proposed approaches and processes for delivering the project will deliver genuine outstanding results; and that the “dynamic” or “spirit” of the management team is experienced as collaborative. During the entire process we took every opportunity to engage in both team and individual coaching .
The impact we had
The client‘s ranking moved from 4th during the desktop review to 2nd during the selection process. And retained 2nd ranking after the commercial evaluation.
Testimonial
Your coaching and encouragement made all the difference. Your style was a good fit with their personalities and you resonated with all of us. I don’t think we would have done as well had you not created the environment for them to gain confidence in their own abilities and to demonstrate that clearly. On a personal note, I can be fairly critical of some of the facilitating styles, perhaps because we all have our own style, but also because these workshops do not always focus on what, I think, matters most, and that is empowerment. You do this very well. You value each person and that is reflected in all that you do.
